I have lived in Prince Andrews Road for 53 years. If GNLP2173 is passed then we on the east side of Cromer Road will have absolutely NO recreational space AT ALL! Also, the purchase of one property to secure access to and from the site on to Prince Andrews Road is questionable and will mean up to 100 extra vehicles using two means of reaching junctions on to Cromer Road. There is already a potential access/entry point on Fifers Lane!! Turning GNLP2173 down will have a paltry effect the overall number of house required under your Local Plan.

1) A 50 house development would lead to possibly 100 or more car journeys per day, plus all servicing traffic some heavy lorries and would not be acceptable to residents living Prince Andrews Road/ Heath crescent as the site will have only 1 narrow access road (3 P.A.R.)leading to 2 others which appears dangerous and not a well thought out answer to enable this use.
2) Hellesdon desperately needs recreational areas due to recent developments (e.g. loss of golf course etc). This green site would be a severe loss to the area if developed.

Apologies for not attending the open day 8.2.20 as I have a hospital appointment in Yorkshire.
We are in the unfavourable position of living next door to the house which is to be demolished.
This makes our property bordered by Heath Crescent-Prince Andrews Road and a new access Road with no privacy , We share a common sewerage facility and the ventilation pipe is attached to number 3.
Do we need extra housing in this area?
Green spaces are getting hard to find.
PLEASE KEEP ME INFORMED REGARDING FURTHER DEVELOPMENTS

I am a Broadland District Councillor for this site.
There is hardly any green space left in Hellesdon for use of our residents. This site, if given over in all or part to housing, would take away the one remaining area of open space of any appreciable size. It should be retained in its entirety for public use, particularly as residents living on the Eastern side of the parish have to cross two major roads to access leisure facilities.
Additionally the road infrastructure is such that more housing would create bottlenecks in Brabazon Road / Cromer Road or Fifers Lane.

comment implies site is unreasonable, objects to being a reasonable alternative
Objects to more housing in this area because;
1) will add to pollution
2) more queues getting onto Cromer Road
3)will cause more traffic on already congested roads
4) more pressure on overcrowded schools
5) more pressure on overcrowded medical practices.
6) Under government regulations, Hellesdon is already under subscribed for green spaces.
7) More green spaces are needed to help lower pollution and allow the local people to enjoy nature and activities without getting in their cars

Full text:

I object to this application of more housing in this area as follows:
1) will add even more pollution to the already polluted area, especially at busy times.
2) Even more queues for vehicles getting out on Cromer Road.
3) Even more traffic on our already congested Hellesdon roads, causing more queueing(sic) thus adding to the pollution.
4) Adding more pressure on our already overcrowded local schools.
5) Adding even more pressure on our already overcrowded medical practices in the area & beyond.
6) Under government regulations we are already undersubscribed (sic) for green spaces in this area. This development would reduce even further the areas left for local people to enjoy.
7) More space is needed not less for enjoyment, especially as we are heading towards a "greener" environment. Green spaces help with pollution reduction/absorbtion & green areas in our locality in future will allow us to enjoy nature & activities without getting out our cars!

Comment is against site being preferred.
The surrounding roads are already congested which is causing more pollution in the area, which already has issues due to the airport fumes. The need for an unpolluted site is greater, it will also soak up water during storms.
Residents and emergency vehicles would have problems getting onto Prince Andrews Road, Heath Crescent and Cromer Road.
If this is built there will be no areas of recreation for children or older residents on the east side of Hellesdon. It will also cause further issues getting appointments with doctors.
To finish I am totally against the proposal of building houses on this land.

Full text:

GNLP2173
I have been living here for 52 years and have seen in Hellesdon lose most of their green land built upon.
This site for housing is not needed on this small plot of land. It is surrounded by Fifers Lane and Cromer Rd both congested with traffic, including polution (sic) from cars and the airport fumes. The need for unpolluted air is greater in this part of East Hellesdon as not having enough green areas, also to soak up the water during storms.
The cars coming out onto Prince Andrews Rd and then Heath Crescent and onto Cromer Rd will cause hold ups for residents on these roads also Emergency vehicles.
On the East side of the busy Cromer Rd there will be no areas for children or older residents for recreation.
Cancelling 50 houses is nothing compared to the building of thousands of houses under local planning. Also trying to get appointments with the doctors is getting worse with more houses being built.
To finnish (sic) I am totally against this proposal of building houses on this land adjacent to Prince Andrews Rd and Heath Crescent.

1. The proposed exit from the site into Prince Andrews Road will be in between two blind corners, a right angle bend into Heath Crescent and a double bend with a further exit to a cul-de-sac in Prince Andrews Road.
2. Building 30-50 houses will need heavy construction vehicles going in and out of the site from narrow roads.
3. This plan does not take into account the requirements of local residents.

1. Driving heavy construction vehicles onto this proposed site with narrow entrance and exit between two blind junctions will be very dangerous for the local residents.
2. The pollution these vehicles will cause, plus the vehicles of the residents of the 30-50 properties once they are built, will be unacceptable. 30 plus homes will probably result in 60 plus vehicles going in and out.
3. Children from these homes will have to cross the very busy Cromer Road.

We cannot afford to lose more green space on the east side of upper Hellesdon. If this proposal goes through we will be left with one small play area east of Reepham Road.
The suggestion that all traffic from the proposal should be routed through Prince Andrew's Road/Brabazon Road is unrealistic. Apart from the impact it would have on existing residents the road is barely wide enough for two cars to pass. Living as I do on *** waiting to exit with one car for a gap to appear can be taxing. I dread to think what the extra traffic trying to exit Brabazon Road would experience!
This village is already committed to an extra 1,300 homes, its doing it's bit for the 'housing crisis', but enough is enough.
I am totally opposed to this application!!

In addition to the above we have the problem of Medical Practice which appears to be struggling with its existing patient numbers, Schools which are mostly full and a lack of green space for families to enjoy.

I think this needs to be rejected and used as land for the community. There isn't a park or any green areas to play on this side of the Cromer road. Along with this Fifers Lane already struggles to cope with the amount of traffic using it and by putting more homes there and then more traffic you are just increasing the chance of accident when trying to pull out on an already busy road. Hellesdon doesn't need more houses and this land should be for the local residents to use and enjoy. With two young children this green space is definitely needed in the area.

The representation says “this would be a reasonable proposal IF additional housing is required”. It clearly is not, Hellesdon’s housing stock is already due to grow by over 25% with a massive undersupply of formal recreation space already (Broadland Policy RL1). Broadland now has its 5 year land supply and every last piece of free green space in Hellesdon is being built on. Access to Cromer Road is already difficult, this will exacerbate the problem, and multiply health impacts/poor air quality due to traffic backing up. In short this is the wrong place for further housing development.

I write in support of the Hellesdon Parish Council's resolution to provide greater green space, particularly in the area between Cromer Rd and Fifers Lane.

In the future, if the status quo remains, my family's choices for local recreational ground would necessitate the crossing of a busy main road. This is bizarre considering this piece of land existing a stone's throw from my home.

I can understand Jarrolds' desire to profit from their ownership of this land by developing it. However, the benefit to the community of making this a public open space, particularly given the extent to which Hellesdon is being developed in terms of housing, should not be forgotten.

I hope that opportunities will be explored to allow this land to be used for the benefit of the community and generations to come.

My concerns are great. Hellesdon has the blight of 1000 new houses on the old Norwich Royal Golf course site, which does not allow sufficient green site space for current residents of Hellesdon let alone another 1000 new families.

I do not believe Hellesdon can support any further housing development, on its roads, using its already over busy Doctor's surgery, and other amenities.

What we lack in Hellesdon is green recreational space.

I would like to support Hellesdon Parish Council in their bid for the old Jarrolds site to be used as additional recreational green space in Hellesdon.

We are all aware of the importance and value to our general health and well being that green spaces provides, for children, walkers and joggers, dog walkers, etc.

We have an inordinate number of new houses being built, but insufficient green space. Once this space has been filled with houses it is lost forever to people and wildlife. I fully support Hellesdon Parish Council in their application to use this space as green space. We do not need any further new housing developments in Hellesdon.

- dangerous junctions Prince Andrews Road and Heath Crescent and congestion Prince Andrews Road, Heath Crescent, Fifers Lane
- Rat runs as above
- Increased pollution
- Building 50 houses will almost certainly add a further 100 cars to congestion already happening

Representation Summary:

If this application succeeds we have NO alternative green area available
This area between Fifers Lane & Cromer Road is a high traffic area with a lot of pollution at most times of the day
These houses would increase traffic impacting on the junction of Prince Andrews Road & Cromer Road making a pinch point
With 1300 houses planned on the golf course, the old Hospital site plus recent Eversley Road Hellesdon has seen more than its fair share of housing
Has sufficient thought been given to infra structure affecting schools, doctors etc which is groaning!

Comment is considered an objection to site being reasonable.
Having viewed the proposed plans for the Heath Crescent development I am totally against the Jarrolds proposition of between 35-50 houses: My main concern is the extra 100 cars trying to get to their place of work daily, the roads cannot deal with this & the pollution to the air will be horrendous. We already have enough traffic around this area due to the industrial sites. As well as this there are no green areas this side of the Cromer Road & the Parish councils proposed use of the site would be fantastic for families & dog walkers. We've lived here 33 years & I used to enjoy hearing the boys playing football on this site, much nicer to hear people having a good time than hearing 100 more cars going about their business.
The better option for anyone living near to this site is the green space but the greed of the owners of the land & the money making opportunity of the developers will probably outweigh the thoughtfulness to provide existing residents with a much nicer place to live.
One final thought is that by developing this site to houses would be a detriment to local wildlife & would also add to the flood risk as the rain will have nowhere to go as we are now realising as the country becomes a concrete jungle.

I am in favour of GNLP1021 and oppose GNLP2173. With development of the Golf Club site & Hellesdon Hospital site there will be a need for some green/recreational areas to balance an increasingly expanding and over developed area. Traffic congestion which is already intolerable will worsen as a result of the above 2 developments. It would be irresponsible to let yet another green area (one of the few remaining) to disappear.

Hellesdon has become a sea of houses and I am horrified that Jarrolds are wanting to make it worse! Why not use the green space which is much needed for all of us old and young, and it could go back to a cricket ground or similar. and go and build on a Brown Sight (sic) - so many of them!
