Draft Local Plan-Part 2 Site Allocations

Representation ID: 19832

Received: 03/02/2020

Respondent: Mr Edward Collins

Representation Summary:

(Comment changed from object to support as although respondent clearly does not want to see development on the site (allowed on appeal) they are supporting the decision that the site is unreasonable for allocation in the GNLP).
This is a dreadful decision if allowed to proceed, this is the wildlife around Dussindale & Plumstead Rd East which makes the whole area look so nice, If progressing this additional development will pack dwellings in like sardines. Furthermore what about infrastructure improvements to handle the additional users of roads, schools, doctors?

Respondent: Ms Barbara Howey

Representation Summary:

In support this development should not go ahead. It is a County Wildlife Site and is totally inappropriate for housing development. There is a climate emergency and this site offers proof of a rich biodiversity which should be protected. This includes rare plants such as Chaffweed and Allseed and over 40 identified ancient woodland indicators such as Scaly Male Fern and is an important site for the Soprano Pipistrelle Bat. Also planning permission went against local opposition and Broadland District Council. We need to lock down carbon emissions the IPCC gave a 10 year target to do this.

In support this development should not go ahead. It is a County Wildlife Site and is totally inappropriate for housing development. There is a climate emergency and this site offers proof of a rich biodiversity which should be protected. Also planning permission went against local opposition and Broadland District Council. Thorpe Woodlands is home to a rich and varied ecosystem. This includes rare plants such as Chaffweed and Allseed and over 40 identified ancient woodland indicators such as Scaly Male Fern and is an important site for the Soprano Pipistrelle Bat. Any building on this site will threaten this ecosystem and will close down any chance of restoring the native habitat. The process of rewilding would help to lock down carbon in the atmosphere and enable native plants and animals to recover and thrive. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) suggested a 10-year target for carbon emission reductions. We need vison and change to find solutions to the current climate emergency and to rapid biodiversity loss.

(Changed from object to support as respondent is actually supporting the categorisation of the site as unreasonable in the GNLP)

This woodland an area of green belt which surrounds the east side of Norwich. It was originally turned down for development by the local council but on appeal pushed through by govt. strategy for growth . it was also seen to be unreasonable, . This beautiful area could be fully developed as a rewilding project, for Norfolk and not given to Luxury housing , non appears to be social housing. what infrastructure would there be for a woodland park. Destroying a natural woodland which is biodiverse is a not in agreement with any future greening plan .
