Representation Summary:

Woodland is invaluable for wildlife and local people who gain the benefits of being in a natural environment, walking and enjoying the changing landscape, flora and fauna. Building new houses and taking away their area for recreation makes no sense.

Full text:

I am horrified at the proposed housing development in the woods alongside Colney Lane. This woodland is the habitat of a range of wildlife and flora. It is a popular area for walkers of all ages giving the residents of Cringleford, Eaton and further afield to experience a countryside environment close to the city centre - a valuable and rare opportunity. Already the residents of the newly developed Round House Park are able to make the most of this beautiful space. The proposed new developments in the area would also require outside space for recreation and to gain an understanding of wildlife. Taking away this woodland area while increasing housing in the locality makes no sense.

I wish to state my strong concern that this public amenity area and green lung for the local populations should not be lost to a built environment. This is a vital part to the rich and diverse protected river valley. To gradually erode this wonderful resource for both people and wildlife would be to the detriment of generations to come . This is a time of great expansion for Norwich and it lies with us to ensure pockets remain with in this greater Norwich for human recreation and a wide range of other species .

Any development in this area would be an encroachment on the green space. This is already heavily used by the local community for walking and dog walking. With the further developments planned for Roundhouse, this green space is going to become more in demand.
With the heavy development already planned for Roundhouse it is important that the development boundaries are maintained to avoid all of the developments linking up in one large urban sprawl.

At present the site is not just a redundant plantation , but provides amenity for the local population and students for walking , jogging , dog walking , Park Running and an opportunity to enjoy nature away from the built environment , We need to preserve green spaces in greater Norwich as islands in the sea of proposed housing.
The site is adjacent to the local CWS and development would leave the CWS exposed . Buildings on this site would visually dominate the Yare Valley Designated Green Space.

The damage to protected woodland by building on this piece of land is unacceptable. These woods form an important part of the yare valley and are enjoyed by people of all ages as a piece of green land as well as being ecologically important for the river and animals. This land is very well loved and used and should be protected for future generations. With the huge amount of land available in the plans that isn't protected I can see no need to build on this land and further damage the yare valley.

This is a beautiful established woodland space frequented by the public for exercise and fun, and home to all manner of wildlife. It seems unthinkable that it should be built on. With the building already committed in the area, this has the potential to tragically change the character of the area - building on the one stretch of natural space that will be left on Colney Lane. Please don't let this be your legacy.

Building on this site would involve substantial loss of protected woodland in the Yare Valley, a place where many people enjoy peace and nature. Eroding bits of the valley like this sets a terrible precedent. If only the protected status of the valley could be strengthened. It is so beautiful and valued by local people and if there is to be further building in and around Norwich it is vital to have wild green spaces where people can go. There is also the possibility of flooding further downstream as a result of water-holding woodland.

This proposal will affect me, my family and my friends. We all enjoy this land for its natural beauty and wildlife. I know many of the people who walk here and I know how much this green space impacts on their the wellbeing and mental health, myself included. I walk here every day. This area is such an intrinsic part of the Yare Valley. Building on this site would impact so much of the amazing wildlife that I see here on a daily basis. Whether it is through a direct loss of habitat or a severe disruption to the area surrounding their habitat. The entire Yare Valley is well used by the public. Please preserve this green space for us all to continue to enjoy. I strongly object to: Colney 0158, 0253, 0514, 0140 A and B (this should not be granted status as a 'Development

Surely we should be putting policies in place to protect the wildlife and woodlands in this area rather than build on them. The area is currently used by many people on a daily basis by locals walking dogs, running and for recreation. The parking lot is often full by visitors cars many of whom use the area for dog walking. With the current plan of 650 houses to be built opposite this will become even more of a necessity to remain for recreation as an open space.

This area of woodlands helps to provide the heart and lungs to the city and provides a natural retreat for much local wildlife, which is steadily getting driven out of the area. It is vital that we maintain these spaces for future generations to enjoy the natural surroundings and wildlife. It is also a very important local amenity to walkers, dog walkers and joggers, as well as students. With so much development planned for the area we should be maintaining as much access to the natural green open spaces as possible. This land has immense local value to everyone.

There is considerable residential development going on within Cringleford Parish at the moment - with hundreds of houses proposed on the extended Roundhouse estate. Building on this site would reduce and restrict access to the woodlands, wildlife, and open space for the families currently living, and soon to be living, in this area.

Access to this established and valuable woodlands (note, not redundant plantation) should be maintained for the local community to walk in, run in, and enjoy, and to preserve development boundaries.

I am disappointed that this application would even be considered.

The area around the UEA is beautiful and is a selling point for the university as student run around this area. For all of these reasons I hope that this proposal is not progressed.

Objection due to loss of easily accessible leisure facility.

Full text:

As your document states, development here would remove an easily foot accessible site used by many local residents for leisure and exercise. It does seem rather incongruous that Norfolk CC has asked about improving access to country for leisure but seeks to allow development in an easily accessible place. The knock on effect would be to reduce access for local residents - many in Cringleford are older and rely on having such areas close to their residences. Personally, I have taught both my children to ride their bikes here as it is a safe and quiet place. The nearest alternative is Thetford Forest which is 40 minutes drive away. The local road system, at peak times, would struggle to cope as traffic regularly queues back from the Colney Lane roundabout back past Cavell Court care home on Roundhouse Way.

I oppose any development that will diminish the innate beauty or wildlife of the Yare Valley.

Full text:

This proposal will affect me personally as I enjoy this land for its calm, beauty, and wildlife. I run through the Yare Valley 3-4 times a week and regularly spot cormorants, herons, cattle egrets, kingfishers, ducks, swans, and squirrels that all make this area their home. The loss of this space would impact this wildlife whether it is through a direct loss of habitat or a severe disruption to the area surrounding their habitat. Many other people walk alone or with dogs on these same paths: the entire Yare Valley is well used by the public. Please preserve this green space for us all to continue to enjoy. I object to more development along the Yare river valley. The rugby club will have an environmental impact. There are not many natural open spaces around Norwich where people can enjoy the environment without having to pay an entrance fee. There is free parking and a bus service, making it accessible to everyone to enjoy. It is well used by people from all over the area. With all the other sites that are being proposed for development in Cringleford, there is no need to encroach on and potentially destroy such a valuable natural resource.

The site supports a diverse range of wildlife. It provides a much-used local amenity for residents, and others from further afield as seen by use of the adjoining car parking spaces. It is used by dog walkers, runners, walkers and nature lovers, and as access to the UEA estate. We feel strongly that given the vast number of homes being built or planned in the immediate vicinity, this small tract of beautiful woodland should not be earmarked to be concreted over. It is totally unnecessary and represents a significant loss to our community and damage to the environment.

Cringleford Woods should be protected as an Asset of Community Value.
To lose the wood to development as well would render the rural outlook of the village unrecognisable.
The car parking space on Colney Lane is an important car park for access to the woods and to Earlham Park at large.
Cringleford Development Plan should be referred to and complied with at all times.
This consultation is inadequate.

This planning application should be declined.

Full text:

This wood is a much used space by local residents, visiting public, and wildlife. Beyond this clear usage and value there are several additional points I would like to draw attention to:

1. I would like to propose that the Cringleford Woods should be protected as an Asset of Community Value... It is used by dogwalkers, Parkrunners, runners on a daily basis. People travel to enjoy the woods! Others have already stressed the community use of the woods and I wholeheartedly agree.

2. Overdevelopment of Cringleford... Cringleford is a rapidly changing and increasingly overdeveloped village, and to lose the wood to development as well would render the rural outlook of the village unrecognisable. Good planning should always respect and retain the identity of the village.

3. Car Park for Cringleford Woods and Earlham Park.....The car parking space on Colney Lane is an important car park for access to the woods and to Earlham Park at large. Alternative car parking is available near the Church on Earlham Road opposite Earlham Park - but this is unsafe as people have to cross a speedy section of Earlham Road to access the park. The car park off University Drive near the UEA Law complex is already full, and is some distance from Cringleford Woods. There are no other car parking spaces available and it seems a shame to lose this one.

4. Cringleford Development Plan should be referred to and complied with at all times.

5. Inadequate consultation..... The parishoners of Cringleford Parish Council were not adequately made aware of this planning application. It is no good simply to put a few sun bleached A4 notices up as people will not read them. Also, given that there is a higher than average elderly population in this village this website consultation portal will be unnavigable for many. For those reasons this is NOT a consultation. A consultation is when you make a clear attempt to ask people's opinion.

This planning application should be declined.

With the proposed development of land around Newfound Farm, the need to retain publicly accessible open space becomes more important than it already is. As well as dog walking, cycling, running, it was wonderful to see the joy of families using this and surrounding areas for sledging during the recent snowfalls. At a time when the nation's health is under threat surely a reduction of publicly accessible open space is short sighted at best and dangerous at worst. The suggestion to have teaching facilities at this location also appears odd due to the distance from the rest of the university estate.

It makes no sense to destroy valuable woodland and green space on this side of Colney Lane, eating into the Yare Valley. If there's a need to build further University accommodation (is there?) then please build it on existing developed parts of the University campus where there's plenty of unused space (have a look at a satellite image) or, on the southern side of Colney lane where there are multiple proposed developments and development would appear to be inevitable eventually. Smart planning incorporates not developing some tracts of land, not just looking for any seemingly available plots.

While expansion of the UEA and Research Park is to be encouraged, the nature and direction of such expansion should be in keeping with its setting. It should complement rather than replicate the density of residential development being proposed.
This area is an intrinsic part of Cringleford's character, which although changing should still be respected and embraced rather than denuded.
