Greater Norwich Local Plan Gypsy and Traveller Sites Focused Consultation

Policy GNLP5014

Representation ID: 24953

Received: 08/03/2023

Respondent: Burlingham Bowls Club

Representation Summary:

The Chairman of our bowls club attended the public meeting at Lingwood yesterday and has aksed me to feedback comments collected from our club members with respect to the above proposed Gypsy site. We think our comments are worthy of consideration by the GNLP team and we ask you to take note.
Our club is situated on the old Main Road in North Burlingham and provides recreation for a number of Bowls players from the home club and visiting clubs throughout the summer months.
We think the position of the proposed site is a very poor choice on the following grounds:-

1 The proposed site is a remote green field site isolated with no footpath links to any town or village with any service ameneties. North Burlingham village is the closest group of properties but has no support facilities for people on the site.

2 There are no utility services anywhere near the proposed site which would have to be provided at some cost. Has this been costed into the plan yet?

3 Highways England had the proposed site earmarked for surface water balancing ponds for the new A47 roadworks which would mean a change to the highways scheme proposal. Has this been properly accounted for?

4 The proposed site is almost surrounded by new roads which must make it inherently unsafe for young people on the site. In addition it will be noisy and not an attractive site for any travellers.

5 We are of the view that serious consideration should be given to extending the site based on the Postwick Park and Ride site rather than the proposed site near Burlingham . Services are already available there and the site is much closer to support facilities rather than the remote rural based site in question.. The site already has Develoment planning consent.

Please give careful consideration to these comments which we think are balanced and logical.
