I am a property owner in South Walsham (currently let) and I object to this proposed development in South Walsham on a number of grounds:
1. Traffic congestion - there is very poor public transport provision to the village so any development will involve increased traffic from contractors working on the site and subsequently from new home owners. The existing roads infrastructure is poor with narrow roads and narrow, poorly maintained pavements in the village. There is no footpath at all on Chamery Lane meaning no safe pedestrian link to the village centre. Since the opening of the Northern Distributor Rd, traffic in the area has increased, putting strain on already ailing roads and there is a significant problem with speeding.
2. Environmental impact - the village is home to the internationally renowned Fairhaven Water Garden and home to diverse rare wildlife species including barn owls, otters, deer, and rare bird life. It is highly regarded for its attractive open countryside views. This development would have a negative impact on the unique topography, landscape and the biodiversity of the area.
3. Lack of community open spaces and facilities - there is no provision at this end of the village for a childrens play area since the small playground on Buckenham Rd was allowed to fall into disrepair by another property developer.
4. Accident blackspot A47 North Burlingham (Cantley White House)- the proposed site on Chamery Hall Lane is on a road which links directly to the A47 trunk road at an accident blackspot known locally as the White House. The site of hundreds of serious accidents, this notorious junction requires urgent remodelling to improve safety through the installation of a roundabout, and in its current form should certainly not be used by even more traffic from a new residential development in South Walsham.
