Having lived at The Street Taverham for over 20 years We object to the development adjacent to Beech Avenue GNLP0062 and GNLP0159
1. The roads (The Street, Ringland Road and Beech Avenue) leading to these developments are inadequate and cannot cope with present traffic levels. Another 300+ dwellings each accommodating at least two people will add to already overcrowded roads in the area. The Street has no footpath, and is a direct route to Taverham High and Middle schools plus two more in the vicinity - huge lorries carrying heavy building materials etc. cannot negotiate the double bend where the Street becomes Ringland road and have been seen reversing all the way back to the Sandy Lane exit. Parents with young children, and older children on bicycles take their lives into their own hands avoiding these hazards which together with speeding traffic and a blind bend is an accident waiting to happen, until the road is closed to through traffic - the alternative of a footpath is another option but not possible where old properties are adjoining the highway. The road is also deteriorating with potholes and sunken drain covers - overgrown hedges cause traffic to use the middle of the road. At commuter and school times the traffic volume is 500 plus p.h. On the OS maps the road appears to be the same size as Sandy Lane (which has footpaths either side ) but in reality it's narrow, no footpaths and badly maintained.
2. The Street has some dwellings dating back to the early 18th century and they are suffering damage from the heavy traffic- the road is on the building line of Lilac Cottage, Park Cottage and the large property on the corner, which was originally the Paper-makers Arms. It's essential that these properties are protected from further deterioration - it's the oldest road, and was the heart of the original village.
