Site Proposals document

Representation ID: 14533

Received: 19/03/2018

Respondent: Mrs Lynne Hammond

Representation Summary:

I oppose this proposal on the grounds of it being a blot on the landscape, obliterating the beautiful view across the Wensum Valley, when few scenic views of the original area remain; increased traffic flow would potentially compromise the safety of junior school pupils; additional strain would be placed on local services, especially the surgery whose difficulty in recruiting doctors already affects the availability of routine appointments.

I appreciate the need for councils to approve the maximum number of planning applications it receives in order to meet government targets. However, I object to this proposed development more fervently than to any other currently proposed for the Taverham area. Since we moved to Taverham in 1981, the construction of many developments, including Thorpe Marriott and Maple Drive, has caused the loss of wildlife habitats, woodland and heartland and has scarred the face of the village. There remain few scenic areas around Taverham but the view across the Wensum Valley from Taverham Road is outstanding and deserves to be preserved. The road itself is not wide (although I assume it may be improved if this application is approved) and becomes very congested, and thus dangerous, at school start and finish times. Additional housing would increase the volume of traffic and the inherent risk of accidents involving school pupils. I do not live in the vicinity of this proposed development but oppose it on the grounds of it quite literally being a blot on the landscape and potentially compromise the safety of local school children. It would also place additional strain on local services, especially the GP practice.
