'Proposals for Acle.

The plan includes 4 new housing developments in Acle. Proposed unit numbers are;

Total 407
With the proposed Herondale development of 58 units, this could produce a total of 465 extra housing units, which could increase the population of Acle by up to 50%.
I was told by your representative at the Acle presentation that Highways consider there is enough road capacity to accommodate these developments. I am concerned that traffic flow on The Street, Old Road and New Road is already compromised, as parked vehicles effectively reduce these streets to one traffic lane. The congestion regularly caused at the totally inadequate access to the Mill Lane estate does not help the situation. These streets must be used by most residents to enter or leave the village.
A substantial increase in population will not only increase the pressure on inadequate parking in Acle, it will also put serious pressure on circulation through the village, and compromise access to main roads. There is nothing in this plan to indicate any thought has been given to reducing traffic passing through the village.
The three largest proposed developments are on the West side of the village. A through road from the roundabout linking the A47 exit to Norwich Road to South Walsham Road would give access to the proposed development sites. If entry and exit lanes to the A47 in the Great Yarmouth direction were provided, this road would also give a lot of local traffic access to the A47 in both directions without the need to go through the village.
I appreciate that, with road projects, the time from identification of need to satisfying the need can be long, perhaps decades. I therefore consider that the need for these roads be identified in the Greater Norwich Local Plan, or with the appropriate authorities, as soon as possible.'
