Draft Local Plan-Part 2 Site Allocations

Respondent: Gill Watts

Representation Summary:

I think it would be undesirable to extend the village by 88 plus new dwellings for the following reasons:-

1. Infrastructure
With a recent growth in new dwellings built in Reedham the infrastructure is now inadequate so would not support (eg. sewerage and drainage is being taken away every day and sometimes twice a day). Also, the roads would support the increase in traffic those houses would bring.

2. Transport
Just over a year ago we suffered a cut in buses. No buses on Saturday or Sunday. Since 5is has happened we have had a very indifferent train service. At best the trains run late, at worse they don’t run at all! This has left us isolated, especially at weekends.

3. Food Security
If we cover our farming land with lots of houses we will be left with inaccessible, unusable pieces of land. We could solve the problem of feeding ourselves with produce we have sourced and flown in from all parts of the world, but how green is that? Would would happen if these countries ran out of food?

4. Finally
Instead of being a picturesque haven for wildlife, Reedham will become yet another sprawling, overgrown, under resourced village. I moved to Reedham for its diversity, not it’s uniformity.
