An application to develop this site for housing was refused in 2016 due to risks from flooding and potential damage to environmentally sensitive areas close by and these hazards continue to make it unsuitable. In addition infrastructure in and around Surlingham, including road access and sewage disposal, is inadequate. Beerlicks Loke specifically should not be burdened with further vehicle movements which would affect access to existing properties and could also impact on its use by walkers as part of The Wherryman's Way.
