Representation ID: 14252

Received: 17/03/2018

Respondent: Sophie Frank

Representation Summary:

Objection on grounds on encroachment of green space that lies close to the city centre, and which provides valuable 'breathing' space for wildlife and Norwich citizens. Also, concerns re viability of planning proposals on land so close to River yare, which regularly floods (for example, in Jan 2018).

I object wholeheartedly to the idea of developing the Bluebell Road site, where the Horse Sanctuary now stands. The fields - and lands running down to the river - offer essential green space to the residents of the densely populated neighbourhoods of South Norwich. Judging by the well used condition of the footpaths, the space is much used by dog walkers, students etc for whom the loss of such green space would compromise their well being, as well as seriously impact on local wildlife. The site's proximity to the city of Norwich surely makes it even more essential to retain its unspoilt nature? I would also be concerned about the viability of the site re. flooding - which regularly occurs (such as Jan 2018). Mostly importantly, this is is key Yare Valley Green Corridor Land. It needs to be protected, rather than lost.
