Representation ID: 14786

Received: 20/03/2018

Respondent: Mr David Bolam

Representation Summary:

Lack of communication from any Councils about this Site Proposal.

Contradicts the stated [Non] Suitability for Additional Strategic Scale Growth - S; M; L and NS on page 39 of the GNLP Draft Conclusions. Why is this?

Roads in Chedgrave not adequate.

Access to the A146 from Norwich Road and to the Norwich Road from Big Back Lane and Rectory Lane is dangerous.

Inadequate drainage in Langley Road causes flooding and would get worse with new development.

Existing strain on our Public Services.

Little for the youngsters to do.

Almost all services are in Loddon.

I became aware of this site proposal, becoming active as I am a member of the Nextdoor Chedgrave group. I have not received any communication from any Council, Norfolk, South Norfolk nor Local. Why is this?

What is the rationale behind such lacklustre efforts to inform local residents of the plans? Had more time been allowed, together with greater publicity then a greater rate of response may have been received.

The existing road network in Chedgrave is not adequate as it is. There is no safe access to the A146 from the Norwich Road and no safe access to the Norwich Road from either Big Back Lane or Rectory Lane. These lanes have blind spots when entering the Norwich Road and also are extremely narrow, making it difficult for vehicles to pass by each other - this is made worse in Rectory Lane as residents there, either place bollards or in one instance a chain across the end of their driveways. This is particularly bad at school times (Langley School).

If we add 70 plus cars trying to go to and from destinations along the A146, then matters will get worse and more dangerous. Where would the access roads be to this new development and who is going to provide pathways?

At the moment, during heavy rain, the water runs down Snow's Lane on some occasions like a river. It meets the water running down Langley Road and causes flooding as the drains are unable to cope with the water volume. A new drainage system would need to be introduced.

The new housing developments in Loddon and Chedgrave have already put a strain on our Doctors, Dentists and Schools and there is very little for the youngsters to do.

It was interesting to Read an article in The EDP today in the Opinion section " Norfolk should 'do different' and look at new settlements."

Finally I fail to understand why the Site Proposal goes against the stated [Non] Suitability for Additional Strategic Scale Growth - S; M;L and NS on page 39 of the GNLP Draft Conclusions.
