Respondent: Mr Trevor Gilbert

Representation Summary:

Object to the site on grounds of traffic. The Hellesdon road network is already over capacity and cannot accommodate existing development that is committed, let alone the additional traffic that would arise from developing this site. The site lies within the Norwich Airport safety zone, and development would be unsafe. D This is important recreational land which is heavily used and very valuable to the residents of Hellesdon. Where are you going to find a replacement in Hellesdon?

Totally unsuitable. This site is still in a safety zone for Norwich Airport. I bring your attention to a sizeable plane which crashed in line with the flight path, had there been properties it would have been a very serious incident.
Since then the helicopters have been moved here, of course many more aircraft movements and not sticking to a flight path, an accident is waiting to happen!
So having a choice! Why would you put property in line with danger? I would be interested to see if any developer or planner would buy a property and live there.
Infrastructure in 60 years of living here I can only see two improvements to Hellesdon roads.
1/ the roundabout at Middletons Lane/Reepham Road.
2/ Cromer Road, Airport approach - widening of road.
The Royal Norwich Golf Course development is next! With probably 2,000 cars and lorries and school that's an awful lot of vehicle movements - with probably minimal amount of road improvement.
Maintenance of our highways is pathetic already!
Why not build these extra properties either side of the NDR. Traffic can then disperse and filter in various directions, instead of sending everything through Hellesdon again! This development should also be sited nearer to Horsford village, so residents can enjoy being part of the community, instead being isolated! NOT SUITABLE!

Totally unsuitable. This is important recreational land which is heavily used and very valuable to the residents of Hellesdon. We were led to believe this land was a requirement based on the number of people living in Hellesdon. Where are you going to find a replacement in Hellesdon? We don't believe there is one!
This site is also part of the safety zone for Norwich Airport, you may not believe so! We can remember when a sizeable plane crashed on this site, and the helicopter movements increasing and not sticking to a so call flight path an accident is waiting to happen!
Who in their right minds would sanction building houses there, it is as irresponsible as building on floodplains which some of our clever planners sanction 9(out do not live in). we are not complaining about Norwich Airport as it was already operating when moving to this property 32 years ago. We support it, if developed responsibly. Why would you build in line with a runway when there is a choice not to.
There has been little improvement in Hellesdon in the 60 years I have lived here. 1/ a roundabout instead of cross roads at junction on Middletons Lane. 2/ Widening of the Cromer Road at the Airport approach.
Since then Thorpe Marriott development has been added. The next one to be added is the Royal Norwich Golf Course, 1,000 homes? 2,000 cars and lorry movements and a school with many vehicle movements. My guess is the road improvements will be a small as the contractors can get away with. The planners are gradually ruining Hellesdon in the same way Norwich are trying to squeeze cycle tracks in where there isn't space for them. I am surprised the NDR has no provision for cyclists at all, a few more fatalities to come on there I suspect.
Conclusion, Hellesdon cannot continue to absorb traffic. Not suitable.
