A quiet village set in the midst of agricultural land, whose character and charm would be totally destroyed by a large housing development. Access roads are totally inadequate for such a large increase in traffic, and any roadworks would further degrade its rural nature.
I strongly object to GNLP 2121 being even considered as a potential site for residential development.
The village of Wortwell currently consists of less than 300 residences, yet the proposed site has, at a conservative estimate, capacity for around 350 houses. This is totally disproportionate, and would, if commercially exploited to the full (the landowner's history to date suggests that it would be), result in the village becoming an adjunct to a huge housing estate. The rural nature of this quiet and charming village would be destroyed forever.
Access to the proposed site is a major concern; access via Low Road is laughably inadequate, along a narrow and twisty road containing Grade II listed buildings, and High Road would become a 'rat run', especially for vehicles setting off from the site towards Beccles, far exceeding its capacity for traffic. The footpaths are very narrow along long stretches of High Road, so walking along this road with children or animals would become intolerably dangerous.
In summary, it would be difficult to imagine a less suitable site for development.
