Respondent: Mrs Steph Silvers

Representation Summary:

Whilst not opposed to smaller, appropriate development on the fringes we strongly object to this inappropriately large proposed development; having moved to Wortwell specifically for a quieter and more rural way of life, Wortwell will become a town, the community feel will be lost. It seems disproportionate the number of people who will be impacted negatively versus who will benefit financially.
Infrastructure/amenities are not sufficient - neither does Harleston have capacity to cope with residents already struggling to find a GP/dentist.
The proposed development land is home to a range of wildlife - not to mention the increased flood risk.

Whilst not being opposed to smaller, more appropriate development on the fringes of the village, we strongly object to this inappropriately large proposed development; having moved to Wortwell specifically for a quieter and more rural way of life, this is likely to result in us moving away from the area. Wortwell will become a town not a village likely with many residents absent during the day and the community feel of the village will be lost. It also seems disproportionate when comparing the number of people who will be impacted negatively (including in terms of a reduction in the value of their property) to the one person who will benefit financially.
The infrastructure and amenities of Wortwell are not sufficient to deal with such a large increase in the size of the village - neither does Harleston have capacity to cope with this increase in residents in the local area with current residents already struggling to find space at a GP surgery or dentist.
The proposed development land is home to a range of wildlife - including barn owls and bats - we should not be impacting on this precious wildlife or rural landscape. This is not to mention the likely increased risk of flooding as a result of building onto, and covering over, land prone to flooding.
