This proposal impinges on an important walking amenity in Taverham, Mack's Lane, much used by local residents. It marks a break in housing on this road and offers relief from suburban pressure with a pleasant, leisurely route to other quiet areas e.g. Costessey Mill. Building here might lead to further development on Mack's lane - (Note: 7a - site access) ".... current access to site from Taverham road and Macks lane which could be extended to accommodate housing". The Taverham road access, raises key safety issues, funnelling onto a busy road (buses, school, trade, delivery) with no footpath.
This proposed development (unspecified number of dwellings) has the unfortunate consequence of impinging on one of the major, important walking amenities in Taverham, Mack's Lane, which is much used by local residents, and not only by those with dogs. This lane marks a distinct end of housing development on the south side of Taverham Road and offers its users a welcome relief from the increasing suburban pressure in the area and offers a pleasant, countrified through route to other quiet areas such as Costessey Mill and Marriot's Way. Building on this site could be seen as a "breakthrough" into further development on that side of the lane - a statement in the proposal (7a - site access) notes: " There is current access to site from Taverham road and Macks lane which could be extended to accommodate housing" If the proposal envisages an exit only onto the Taverham Road, then road safety issues become paramount, since the vehicular traffic and/or pedestrians would be required to emerge on to a much used road (by buses, school, trade, delivery and postal traffic) with limited sight lines and no footpath.
