Greater Norwich Local Plan Site Reference 2141

I am writing to object to this planned development because the proposed development is totally out of character and will have a severe adverse impact on the environment and the quality of communal village life in Newton St. Faith.

There is already a shortage of infrastructure in the village in terms of schools, services, public transport and medical facilities; for instance it is already difficult to see the local doctors. I have no faith in extra services being introduced and there appears to be no firm commitment to provide adequate provision.

In particular, the roads are inadequate and the junction at Manor Road and the A140 is already dangerous and difficult to navigate because the traffic in this area has increased dramatically recently. This situation can only be exacerbated by this development as there is no employment in the area and, as a result, there would be a substantial increase in traffic heading into Norwich on an already busy road.

The environmental impact of the proposed development would be entirely negative. This is an area of forestry and woodland with an abundance of wildlife and deer and it is short sighted to build on land historically devoted to agriculture and used to produce food. I cannot see any detailed designs so cannot tell how they would integrate but it is clear from the plans that the concentration of building does not indicate an emphasis on good design.

From a personal viewpoint, my house would overlook this development. From my living room window I enjoy a view over the A140 to the forests opposite, there are deer running around and it's a wonderful relaxing view and environment. I don't want to find village life destroyed.

From a policy viewpoint, I have read the information on your website about migration into the area, the need to build more houses for locals and the need to increase GDP to fund services. However, it appears to me that this argument is flawed as based on a fundamental contradiction - if you increase the number of people in an area, then the GDP will go up, but you need to spend more on local infrastructure, so you bring more people in, but then you have to improve the infrastructure again.

There is so much more to measuring a country's success than GDP. Planning policy should be based on quality of communal life, environmental quality and the provision of adequate services and infrastructure. Please do not proceed with this development.
