New, Revised and Small Sites

Respondent: Mrs Mary Bishop

Representation Summary:

I strongly object as follows:

It is an SSSI and Special Area of Conservation providing habitat for roe deer, buzzards, hares, bats and declining birds such as owls and yellowhammers.

Currently unspoilt, Macks Lane provides a precious amenity area for local residents.

The possibility of contamination of the Wensum is too high, with a risk of water run-off/surface water flooding.

Taverham Road is very narrow. Increased traffic flow would create congestion and pose an increased safety risk to pedestrians, cyclists and schoolchildren.

It is outside the settlement line and would set a precedent for future development.

Development is environmentally catastrophic.

This site consists of mainly agricultural land and runs parallel to Macks Lane, currently providing a safe off-road country walk much used by local residents. It is a SSSI and a Special Area of Conservation creating a diverse habitat for roe deer, buzzards, hares, bats and declining birds such as owls and yellowhammers. It would be devastating to lose such a precious habitat and rural amenity area used by so many.

Other concerns are:
Water run-off/surface water flooding into the nearby Wensum.

Traffic congestion and pedestrian safety on the narrow Taverham Road where there is no prospect of road widening. Many children use this to walk to .

It is outside the settlement line and would set a precedent for future development.

Access to the site from Taverham Road would create visibility problems unless a large splay was created.

With the newly constructed NDR now in place, I would suggest that other more northerly sites in Taverham would be more suitable with better infrastructure already in place.

It would be environmentally catastrophic if the Council allowed mass development so close to the beautiful River Wensum Valley.
