New, Revised and Small Sites

Respondent: Mr Stuart Callis

Representation Summary:

Building 25 new houses could not be done without affecting the form and character of the village as stipulated in the Joint Core Strategy and could not be construed as 'infill'.
The JCS also seeks to protect and enhance the individual character and culture of the area. Swainsthorpe currently does have its own individual character, it is friendly, quiet and rural and it needs protection to keep it that way.
Getting out of Church Road onto the A140 is already extremely difficult without disproportionally increasing the local population overnight who will all need cars as there are no local facilities.

Building 25 new houses could not be done without affecting the form and character of the village as stipulated in the Joint Core Strategy and could not be construed as 'infill'. The proposed position would destroy the view across the countryside for residents and would have a negative visual impact on the landscape.
The Joint Core Strategy also seeks to protect and enhance the individual character and culture of the area. Swainsthorpe currently does have its own individual character, it is friendly, quiet and rural and it needs protection to keep it that way. It needs protection from developers who would concrete over the green fields, destroying productive arable land as they ride roughshod over the concerns of the local people. GNLP states it will maximise development on brownfield sites - this is greenfield.
Access to the proposed development is on a dangerous S bend close to the railway line and with restricted views of oncoming traffic. It is close to the school bus stop and opposite a children's play area. The road through the village is narrow and uneven with several blind bends and is not suitable for any extra traffic - there could be an additional 50 cars from this development.
Getting out of Church Road onto the A140 is already extremely difficult without disproportionally increasing the local population overnight who will all need cars as there are no local facilities in the village. The A140 junction cannot cope with any additional cars - there are long tailbacks of idling cars at peak times now.
