Respondent: Mr Colin Mower

Representation Summary:

I support small well thought out developments (4-5 houses) but I do not think the infrastructure (roads, school, amenities, lack of pavements) can support larger developments. We cannot allow the countryside to keep getting eroded and I certainly don't want to see Wicklewood become an amalgamation of Wymondham. I know this is no where near a Wymondham conurbation, but looking well into the future I can see this happening if we let go of fields gradually over time.

Whilst I'm not a NIMBY and I recognise the need for additional housing, I do think that this development and the other large ones (GNLP0232, GNLP0535) in Wicklewood would be detrimental to the village for the following reasons:

1. The roads are already choked during peak times (especially school drop off/pick up). No pavements except on Hackford Road and partly on Church Lane mean it is already dangerous for pedestrians. People drive far too quickly and an increase in traffic will undoubtedly increase the accident risk.

2. The Primary school is already over-subscribed. Wymondham College over the last few years has hardly even extended catchment to Wicklewood due to popularity, and Wymondham High is also over-subscribed.

3. There are no village amenities apart from the pub. Pubic transport is poor (one bus an hour that takes nearly an hour to get into Norwich).

4. The surrounding fields around the village are all part of the attraction to live there. I appreciate this proposal isn't the entire field but it will immediately hit you as you enter the village. The school will be surrounded by road and housing instead of facing onto fields and feeling far more open.
