Representation Summary:

1. SHX is not a service village.
2. Main problem is impact of traffic and use as a cut through from A140 and A146. No public resources to address this.
3. Further development will only increase existing traffic impact.
4. Need for alternative transport options e.g.cycle lane to Norwich, footpath to Upper Stoke
5. Inadequate utility infrastructure
6. Lack of local health care provision and risk of overloading Poringland facilities
7. The destruction of SHX as a village as it merges with Poringland.

In my view Stoke Holy Cross is wrongly classified as a service village having only a part time post office, a small village store and a fish and chip shop. These do not make a significant contribution to reducing road journeys to actual service centres such as Norwich.
The village is used as a cut through to Norwich due to the existing congestion on the A140 and road from Poringland to Norwich. Already over 800 cars per hour pass along Norwich Road during busy periods (speedwatch data) causing air, light and noise pollution and degrading village life. Any additional development will inevitably cause further deterioration. Norfolk County Council, Highways Dept and the Police currently state they are unable to effect any significant improvement due to lack of resources. This situation is not going to change in the short term.
There is a real need for a cycle path from the village into Norwich and for a footpath from the village to Upper Stoke to enable alternative safe transport methods.
I would agree wholeheartedly with other comments made concerning overload of drainage and sewage infrastructure and lack of access to local medical and dental services.
I am concerned about the destruction of the green areas between villages. SHX is in danger of becoming a suburb of Poringland and no longer a village.
